How I organise my work and life

Finding an organisation system that works for you is crucial to maximising your productivity and gaining control over how you use your time. I’ve recently switched over to using Google Calendar and Asana as my tools for organising my work and life.

From a physical diary to Google Calendar and Asana

I used to be the old-school type of gal who made her to-do list and schedule only with pen and paper. After being encouraged to use digital organisation tools in a Praxis module, I made the switch to Google Calendar and Asana and couldn’t have been more satisfied.

Here are some reasons why:

  • Device syncing with my laptop and phone gives me mega easy access to my schedule and to-do list.

  • This frees up the mental space of remembering to carry a physical diary everywhere I go.

  • I can update my schedule on my phone immediately, as soon as I know about a future task.

  • The notifications on Calendar means that I don’t have to open up my diary every 20 minutes to figure out what’s next.

Of course, if writing everything down on paper is how you like to roll, then keep going. Above are just a few benefits of digital organisation tools that in my personal experience, have resolved the limitations of a physical diary.

Here's a quick video where I walk you through my organisation system.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar is my schedule that tells me what I should be doing at a particular moment of the day. Here's how I use it.

Asana

Asana helps me organise big projects and effectively progress through them. Here's how I use it.

Final Thoughts

Everyone has different needs in how their organisation system is to work, so don’t feel pressured to do exactly what I do. In fact, even though I’m quite confident in my current organisation system, there are a few things I can improve on to further optimise my productivity. Taking less time to draw up my weekly schedule is definitely one of them (I eat up a huuuugggeeee 1 hour of my Sunday nights solely just to input everything into Calendar and Asana). Spend some time experimenting with different organisation tools to see what works best for you!
